Working on finishing stuff for this class and studying for my oral exams. I have my public presentation prepared and ready. Almost! Can't wait to have more time to shoot!
KG

Re: Death Valley Star Trail Photography

Alec,

So, which way is north?!?! ;)

Re: Death Valley Star Trail Photography

Alec, I have never seen this combination of effects done before. You have done a number of things that are rarely (if ever) done by others. You think outside the box more than "normal" people. I'm impressed. Keep on inspiring the rest of us!

Re: Death Valley Star Trail Photography

Hey KG,

Got that thesis done yet???? 8-)

Re: Death Valley Star Trail Photography

Hi Wes,

Thanks for being here and for the kind words. Believe it or not, we were out of the dunes by 7pm and enjoying a beer at the saloon in Stovepipe Wells. That's a good day's work, in my book.

Hope all is well.

Re: Death Valley Star Trail Photography

I wouldn't say seriously, but I would say honestly :-P yes, there are some other digital tricks to do star trails, like stack a bunch of shorter duration images and using some third party software, but that's not my gig. I like to come up with a concept and execute it...we did some tests the night before with "painting with light" and then on this shot implemented it. There was a lot of "what if" dialog between me and Travis and ultimately it just came down to "let's try it and see what happens."

Then we got lost trying to walk out of the dunes in the dark.

Thanks for stopping by Meg!

Re: Death Valley Star Trail Photography

Love the competing circles of light, Alec. What a great idea to add yourself into the picture. The stars trails are wonderful. 40 minutes, WOW. Wonder when the last time was that I stayed still that long 8-)

Great work
Wes

Re: Death Valley Star Trail Photography

This totally rocks AJ. Glad to hear that Travis made it too. Remember, I'm a rookie. This picture is incredible.

Meg
